I am a great follower and I really mean it. Being a true citizen of India, I inherit certain qualities which, I believe, are the very basic birth-rights of a person born in this country. Everyone here is a great follower and I am not an exception. We have nothing original, nothing new, not a single idea except the mathematical concept of zero, discovered around 650AD. Since then, we have nothing new about which we can boast. Starting from our government’s policies, its structure, each idea here is either adopted or stolen form others. It is little bit complicated, whether we follow democracy as in other countries like US, UK (where a person’s social position depends on his merit) or we have communism like in China (or USSR), where a person is restricted to use his merit for his personal gain beyond a given limit. Actually we follow both ideologies; we are democratic as well as communist. But it is not the matter of concern whether we are democratic or communist. We are great follower and great thieves ,story ends up here. Instead of saying follower, I should rather use “sidekick” to describe Indians better.
I read The White Tiger, by Arvind Adiga a few months before .He writes “We Indians are a great follower of Lord Hanuman, a super sidekick of Lord Rama. We are trained to worship Hanuman from our early age and so we are trained to be a sidekick from very tender age.”
(Sorry folks, this is my perception of Indians and if it is causing any resentful displeasure, don’t be reluctant on telling me. Keeping in the mind that I am a great follower, you can think I am a great follower of Adiga too.)
Extending my belief in followership, I decided to be the part of blog-writing rat race. Everyone is writing blog today, everyone is sharing his views on anarchism, monarchism, democracy, communism, music, love, films, his own life etc .Then why shouldn’t I???
So I decided to write my own blog. But what I should write, frankly I don’t know. I don’t know about various “ism” like anarchism, communism, monarchism etc and I don’t even have a good taste of music. I don’t know which song lands up in which genre. I enjoy movies a lot.
Too much anger, but nice first post. I hope you channel your anger into something creative and not be just another sidekick!!
ReplyDeletegr8 post ... i have not expected such type of blog entry from you.
ReplyDeleteHey..Shakti...its very nice way of expressing yourself and you did it very well....its Lucid an
ReplyDeleted Descriptive.
But One thing i wanna say ...we Indians are not combination of communist and democrats....we actually "Socialist"...and I believe every
Humanitarian are "Socialist".
Neways I like ur way of writing...:)
I think you are quite impressed by others creativity but i wanna know how much have you tried to do some thing new and this country have prevented you from doing that..you are blaming India as whole of being a follower means you are blaming every common citizen of following someone and you are neglecting the achievements of Indians. You gave the example of zero only but there are so many achievements of our people, among them a popular one is Hot Mail. I think Arvind Adiga himself don't know exactly what actually a "sidekick" is, his main motive was to sell his book while writing all this...and persons like you started using practically this thing... I think this comment is long enough for a blog...and u would've got my point!! ... keep writing ...it will ease ur anger..

ReplyDeleteshakti you have expressed your anger on blogger in a perfect way.
ReplyDeleteI think the 'Indians' you are referring to are the people who are wasting their time in writing the useless blogs. But it's not right to point a finger on our ancestors as they have a lot of achievement in every area ranging from philosophy to science and technology.you can not say the 'sidekick' to them.I can name many prominent 'Indians' who are definitely contributors to the development of the World as a whole e.g. Aryabhatta,Charaka, shshruta,Kalidasa,Dhanvantari ,Varahamihira,H.J.BHABHA,S.Ramanujan,C.V raman, shanti swarup bhatnagar,S.Chandrashekhar,V.Sarabhai and many more. :)
After all,as i have percieved, it is a harsh comment on blogger not on all Indians. So I think you are going on the right track and in right way.I think you have used the best word "follower or sidekick" for them. They deserve it.
Keep commenting as harsh as possible on such persons.
and in the end I am feeling that you are following your GURU. AM I RIGHT.......
a good blog to start with. waise chill bhai.
ReplyDeleteCritical Analysis:
ReplyDelete-"I am a great follower.." of whom??
-"I inherit certain qualities which, I believe, are the very basic birth-rights.." what qualities, what rights are u talking abt??
-"Since then, we have nothing new about which we can boast..."
Why do u need to boast??Trying to figure out a reason can't find one..do want to prove that u belong to a superior race or is it that u are so afraid of your own insignificant existence that u need to boast to re-emphasize that u actually exist?? And its incorrect if u say we have nothing new to 'boast about'- India: largest democracy, secularism, freedom of thought, equal opportunity, your culture, your inheritance these are just few of the things which u can boast abt..
-"It is little bit complicated, whether we follow democracy as in other countries..." : Is there a harmful in following the better tracks??What do u want? do u want a situation like in afganistan where women can't step out of the house alone without burkha or pakistan which is forever in anarchy? do u want India to be in chaos?? If not democracy then what? Communism - so that they can introduce lethargy, red tapism and take u back 100 years..damn communists!!
Or is it dictatorship that u want, like u had in Indira Gandhi's time : mass murders, banning MNCs, taking India towards bankruptcy..I hope u know why India had to open up to the world in 1991-92...
PS : In no way are we communists, u have the wrong impression.
-"We are trained to worship Hanuman from our early age and so we are trained to be a sidekick from very tender age.."
Is is so wrong to have role models??
u imbibe things ,thoughts, ideologies from others and based on your judgment u develop a 'point of view', a perspective, which in itself is unique as everyone has different experiences of life. ok tell me one thing, if we keep a kid locked from external world since his birth all his lifetime, take him out after 50 years, do u think he will have an 'original' approach towards the world, different from others??no, he will be a stupid, moronic, unsocial, animal not a human being. My point is u get to know this world when u interact with people, nature, places ..
ok tell me, are u not 'following' Arvind Adiga at this very moment???don't u agree with his view?? :)
"So finally I reach to the conclusion of this crap that I know myself better and I should write about myself."- Its good to know that u are writing about yourself, better u open your eyes see the world around u, think, learn and then express.. Don't keep your brain closed in
a casket thrown away into a deep ocean.......
acchi maaari naa?? :)
Nice post for a start...
ReplyDeleteBut whats wrong in being a "sidekick"..if it helps you survive in this hostile world...
India never cared to follow and update itself with the technological and military advances of the outside world...and it ended up being looted by Genghis Khan...dozens of time...and being ruled by the Muslims and the British for hundreds of years...
India prudently followed the demcratic and communist framework of diferent countries...and has managed to keep its democracy alive and working for the last half a century...
so shakti...following is not bad...its blind imitation which takes away your wisdom and creativity...
So chill...there's nothing bad in sidekickng ...Dude :)
nice post for a start,,i really m in a pleasant surprise that u wrote this gud,,and i believe u descrobed urself real well,,but if u think i know u which i do(as my xperience of past 9 yrs tells me)u can make things better dude..so stop thinking this useless stuff..and take my words for you...u have taught many people a lot of things,,and even if u have not invented an eletric bulb or didn't stablished 2nd microsoft,,u certainly are not another brick in the wall..
ReplyDeleteNice write up Shakti !!
ReplyDeleteWhat sets one apart in this big world is uniqueness
There are lots of creative ppl in India whose works are in no way inspired by others .
Indian Music , Literature , art everything is a testimony of the fact that Indians are in no way inferior to others !!
